Water Resources (W.R.) is a wing of Public Works Department (PWD) in the state of Tripura. Main focus of the department is to assure irrigation to the maximum extent possible in the cultivable field for getting higher agricultural product. To facilitate irrigation, both surface and ground water source are utilized. In case of surface water source irrigation is provided through Lift Irrigation (L.I.) scheme, High Power Lift Irrigation (H.P.L.I.) scheme, Diversion Scheme, Barrage, Low height Pick Up Weir etc. and in case of ground water source irrigation is provided through Deep Tube Well (DTW) scheme, Small Bore Tube Well (SBTW) scheme etc. Constructions of few Rain Water Harvesting Reservoir schemes are also in progress to store surface water which has vast utilization like irrigation, ground water recharge, pisciculture etc.

On the other hand, disaster management through river/ cherra bank protection work is also a prime task of Water Resources (W.R.). Cement Concrete Block, Sand cement Block, Wire Crates filled with bats, Gunny bags filled with sand/earth, Bamboo Spur etc. works are generally executed for bank protection purpose. Also, earthen embankments are constructed along the bank of river/cherra to stop inflow of flood water into country side.

  3. Tentative Irrigable area =1,53,145 ha.

  4. Irrigation Potential Created (IPC) = 1,21,512.21 Ha.

5. Total nos. of Flood Protection embankment in the State= 41 nos.(134.55 Km)

NB: The Present and updated status of irrigation schemes of other department .i.e. Rural Development Deptt, Agriculture Deptt, TTAADC, Forest Deptt. are not available as not  updated since long back , therefore, the statistics of coverage by those schemes are further required to be reviewed by those concerned Deptt.
