Water is essential for survival of life on the earth. It is a limited resource. Water resources of the state are limited. It is to be harnessed judiciously to meet the growing requirement of our developing economy. Therefore, development, conservation and management of water resources are utmost important job.

The Water Resources wing of Tripura works under the guidance of Ministry of Jal Shakti and is mainly responsible for laying down policy guidelines and programmes for the development, conservation and management of water at state level. The Department is also allocated the subjects pertaining to regulation and development of technical guidance, scrutiny, clearance and monitoring of the irrigation, water structures, flood control and multi-purpose projects; surface and ground water budget and management; flood proofing; water logging and dam safety.
